Fiorentina patron Andrea Della Valle praised Vincenzo Montella and assured Alberto Aquilani will let them “forget about Riccardo Montolivo.”
The Viola have been busy over the last couple of days, securing permanent buys for Aquilani from Liverpool and Villarreal duo Borja Valero and Gonzalo Rodriguez.
“That was the phone call I had been waiting for on Aquilani,” smiled Della Valle at the pre-season training camp in Moena.
“With him we can forget about Montolivo.”
Fiorentina lost former captain Montolivo on a free transfer to Milan when he refused to extend his contract.
Fans protested at the lack of ambition shown by the club and few investments, but Della Valle is fighting back.
“You know we want to get back to where Florence belongs, not forgetting everything we said to the fans. They deserve respect and I will keep my promise.”
There was also praise for former Roma and Catania Coach Montella.
“Montella reminds me of early Cesare Prandelli. He has the same hunger and readiness to work, the same meticulous approach. You’ll see as the days go by that he has been our best signing...
“I dream of hearing the Champions League theme tune again. We have been at the helm for 10 years and this is the turning point. We want to stay for a long time and never, ever buy a club that isn’t Fiorentina.
“Our football history was born with Fiorentina and it’ll die here too. When we were offered the chance to invest in Roma, we refused without a second thought.”
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there will be more new arrivals at the Stadio Franchi, as Ryan Babel is thought to be available on loan from Hoffenheim.
