Federico Peluso reveals what was going through his head when he almost scored against England. “I thought too much.”

The Atalanta full-back made his debut in the second half of tonight’s 2-1 friendly defeat.

“It’s a dream come true and it is everyone’s ambition to play for the Nazionale. Cesare Prandelli gave me that dream and I will always remember this night fondly.

“It’s a shame about the result, but we go home fairly happy. I work day by day and am coming from a good season. I hope to repeat that campaign with my club and, if the Coach calls, then I’ll try to be up to the task.”

Peluso had a great opportunity to score for the Azzurri, but hit the side-netting on Antonio Nocerino’s through ball.

“Everything went through my head at that moment! Should I cross, shoot, will I score on my debut, oh my word I’m playing for Italy – I thought too much.”

He also made a mistake in defence with a mis-timed sliding challenge at the by-line.

“I got taken in by the passion of the moment and went in with a sliding tackle. I remembered as a child they told me as a defender never to end up with your bum on the ground.”
