Tomorrow's night's clash against Verona has brought back fond memories for Genoa striker Alberto Gilardino.

The clubs are set to meet at Marassi in the third round of the Coppa Italia, encouraging Gilardino, who spent two years playing for the Gialloblu in his youth, to take a walk down memory lane.

“I was very young when I arrived in Verona, but I already felt responsibility having experienced Serie A with Piacenza,” the Biella bomber told Genoa's official website.

“I scored a total of five goals in a season and a half, from 2000 to 2002, first deployed by Attilio Perotti, then by Alberto Malesani.

“It was an important stage in my development, in a city where life is good and where there is great passion for football.”

With Genoa in Serie A and Verona in Serie B the hosts are favourites, but having narrowly lost out in the promotion play-offs last season and reinforced over the summer Andrea Mandorlini's visitors can't be underestimated.

“We will give it our all to go through,” Gila concluded.
