Vincenzo Montella was impressed with Fiorentina’s Coppa Italia win against Novara, although “we are a work in progress.”
The Viola reached the Fourth Round thanks to a 2-0 win at the Stadio Franchi on Saturday, secured by Adem Ljajic and Manuel Pasqual.
“I am satisfied, as we did well despite the torrid heat,” said the Coach. “We need to grow and are still a work in progress. Novara are a good side, though we must be more determined in front of goal to avoid having regrets.
“Ljajic is doing very well, though we have to remember that we’re about to face teams of a high level and that might require different qualities. We sometimes get a bit bogged down in passing and should be more direct.”
Alberto Aquilani was injured, but David Pizarro and Borja Valero started in midfield.
“Mati Fernandez is still behind schedule in terms of fitness levels, but I am confident he will grow. He will be useful, as he can play in many different roles.
“Do we need a centre-forward? I do say we need other weapons.”
