Riccardo Montolivo has admitted he was shocked that his Milan debut ended in a 1-0 home loss to Sampdoria.
“I would have expected a different result for the first game of the season,” stated the Bosman free signing from Fiorentina.
“We’re disappointed because we created a lot in the second half, but we were missing that little bit of luck.”
Milan have undergone some mass changes over the summer and the supporters didn’t hide their anger following yesterday’s San Siro defeat to a newly promoted side.
“I can understand the discontent of the fans and we’re disappointed and angry too, but we’re counting on making amends on Saturday,” Montolivo added.
“There’s still a lot of work to do in all areas and we still have to find the right balance. There’s a lot of room for improvement.”
The Italian international thought Milan did enough in the game to get at least a point, but admits that Sampdoria’s defensive display was impressive.
“It was tough to get the ball in and around the final third. When teams close up like they did, it’s difficult to create play.
“In the second half we reacted well and we could even have deserved a different result.”
