Milan’s Francesco Acerbi has been added to the Italy squad after Cagliari’s Davide Astori was sent home because of injury.
The stopper has picked up a thigh strain and he’ll be replaced in the squad by Acerbi who got his first call-up for last month’s 2-1 loss to England.
Roma’s Federico Balzaretti has also been withdrawn from the squad, but he was replaced by Atalanta’s Federico Peluso on Monday.
Italy play Bulgaria on Friday and then Malta on Tuesday as they begin their World Cup 2014 qualifying campaign.
