Atalanta goalkeeper Andrea Consigli has revealed the secret behind his penalty saving exploits. “I study!”
The custodian hit the headlines on Sunday night when he denied Cagliari from the spot on two occasions in the space of nine minutes.
“I’m always prepared for penalties,” the former Italian Under-21 international noted. “Thanks to technology, you can have detailed analysis to look at and that is a big advantage.
“I didn’t have any videos of Joaquin Larrivey taking a spot-kick, while Daniele Conti usually hits his in the other corner.
“The two saves were ones of instinct. Conti didn’t take his too well and I did well to lower my arm.”
The 25-year-old actually ended up in hospital on Sunday night after smashing into teammate Guglielmo Stendardo during the second half of a game which ended 1-1.
He was later discharged and will be ready for Week 3 action once the international break is over.
