Former Italian Under-21 goalkeeper Vito Mannone is not going to give up his place in Arsenal’s first team without a fight.

The 24-year-old has kept two clean sheets in two Premier League games in place of the injured Wojciech Szczesny this season and his form might keep the Polish international on the bench.

“I just roll up my sleeves and try to work because I know I can do well,” Mannone told the club’s official website.

“When you are No 1, you feel important and like the happiest man in the world, that sort of feeling gives me the chance to go on to the pitch with confidence.

“I would like to be involved more and more and establish myself.”

The 24-year-old joined Arsenal from Atalanta” data-scaytid=”7″>Atalanta for £350,000 in the summer of 2005.

Since his arrival in north London, Mannone has also spent time on loan in the English Championship at Barnsley and Hull City, where he kept a club record six consecutive clean sheets.

“I had some good games at Hull and it was a great experience for me. The best thing was playing senior football and playing consecutive games and getting the mentality of the No 1,” he added.
