Milan made an offer for Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez while he was with their B team, his mother has confirmed.
The Spanish playmaker quickly caught the attention of the Diavolo and Vice-President Adriano Galliani made a concrete move.
“Galliani came and put an offer on the table when Xavi played for Barcelona B, offering him a four-year contract,” Maria Merce Creus said in an interview with TV Cuatro.
“At the time he had Pep Guardiola in front of him...but, inside of me, I thought it would tear the family apart completely if he went.
“Besides, I always thought that, although it might be difficult, he would be a success at Barcelona.”
Xavi is now regarded as one of the best players on the planet after helping Barcelona and Spain to global domination.
