Marco Materazzi believes Antonio Cassano “is a genuine guy who won’t give Inter problems” and discussed the club spying on former teammate Christian Vieri.
The veteran ex-defender spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about the current situation at San Siro, including fiery new arrival FantAntonio.
“If he is placed in the right conditions, Cassano can make the difference. I often talk to Cassano and I know what he’s like. He is a genuine guy and if someone says something then doesn’t follow up on it...” said Matrix.
“This is Antonio. He doesn’t count to 10 before reacting. Perhaps he gets to eight, but that’s him, take it or leave it. If someone is honest with him, then he can sit games out and even be on the bench all season. He won’t give Inter problems.
“With Wesley Sneijder, Diego Milito and the return of Cristian Chivu and Walter Samuel in defence, Inter can target the Scudetto.
“Have you seen how well Andrea Ranocchia is doing? I had predicted correctly that he would be my heir.”
Inter have been ordered to pay €1m compensation to Bobo Vieri for hiring a private detective to track his movements and even wiretap his phone calls while he was playing for the club.
“I was never spied on and I think the fact Bobo was suggests it had little to do with what happened on the field,” noted Materazzi.
“It’s not that Inter were hurting other teams. If they hurt Bobo, then I understand he wants to take the matter further in the courts, but let’s not confuse this with talking to referees or the Federation.
“It might not be nice or even particularly legal, but Inter didn’t hurt anyone other than ourselves.”
The 2006 World Cup winner revealed he is still regularly in contact with his former Inter boss Jose Mourinho.
“I frequently talk to Mourinho. I know he’s happy in Madrid and has a very strong team. Mou is madly in love with Inter. Who knows, one day we could work together again.”
