Massimo Moratti has backed boss Andrea Stramaccioni for getting annoyed at claims that his side play a ‘provincial’ brand of football.

“I think whoever described us as such chose the wrong term because I don't think we played defensively,” the Inter President stated on Monday.

“Whoever said it was wrong to – and it comes back to this desire to say something negative about Inter even if it's not actually the case.”

The Nerazzurri collected a 2-0 win at Torino on Sunday and Moratti was impressed with what he saw from his side.

“We played an intelligent game of football,” he added. “Well done to the Coach who oversaw a careful approach in which we kept the ball. That's what we needed to do, the match went well.

“We're definitely more clinical. We need a little more pace, but yesterday I thought we played a good game.”

The oil baron also praised the defensive partnership of Andrea Ranocchia and Juan Jesus, as well as the anger shown by Wesley Sneijder following his substitution.

“Ranocchia and Juan Jesus are the pairing for the future, but we're now living in the present and we have other talented players.

“They'll have the time and means to improve and if they continue to perform like yesterday, they'll do very well indeed.

“Sneijder? I actually think it's great he gets annoyed because that shows he wants to play. The Coach knows what he's doing and the players are switched on.”
