Gigi De Canio feels Genoa got the three points against Lazio that they had probably deserved last week from Juventus.

“If I think of how clear our chances were against Juventus last week, Lazio didn’t actually threaten that much,” he said of their 1-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico.

“Of course we had to suffer and Lazio would put us under pressure with their quality and Hernanes’ ability to go past his man, but for the most part they threw vague balls into the box.

“We didn’t play anywhere near as well as we did against Juve, but this is football. It can give and take away.”

The Grifone lost 3-1 to Juventus after taking the lead and dominating the first half, while in Rome they scored with one of their only chances.

“I am satisfied because the team showed the right spirit and did not get too downhearted after last Sunday. We focused on our strengths and the chances we could create against a strong Lazio,” continued De Canio.

“I believe it’s important to create an identity for a team and following a consistent style of play, home or away, is crucial. Of course your opponents can force you into corners, but my philosophy is to attack and go for the victory at all times.

“Our main problem is that we must learn to have confidence when in possession in midfield, as that can prevent counter-attacks and help the defence.”
