Marek Hamsik has argued that the early dismissal of Catania’s Pablo Alvarez may have actually made things more difficult for his Napoli side.
The Azzurri travelled to the Stadio Massimino on the back of three straight wins, but they could only draw 0-0 with the 10-men home team.
Alvarez was sent-off after just two minutes for a last-man challenge and Catania subsequently shut up shop in order to protect a point.
“The dismissal of Alvarez affected how the game was played,” the Slovakian noted. “We had the better of the possession, but Catania erected an insurmountable barricade.
“We had our chances to score in the 90 minutes, but they defended well and we were unable to get over their wall.”
