Magic Malaga, SuperMario to the rescue

Malaga are dominating Milan’s group after a confident victory in Anderlecht, but Mario Balotelli rescued Manchester City.

The Champions League group phase continued this evening after the Rossoneri earned a 3-2 win away to Zenit.

Spanish side Malaga are top of Group C following a 3-0 demolition job on Anderlecht, as they have a 100 per cent record with six goals scored and none conceded.

Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City may have won the Premier League, but they run the real risk of a first round Champions League exit for the second consecutive year.

Borussia Dortmund forced Joe Hart into a series of great saves and were deservedly 1-0 up, but a harsh penalty for a handling offence in the final minute saw substitute Balotelli step up to convert with his usual cool as a cucumber attitude.

Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a hat-trick to wipe the floor with Ajax and put Real Madrid alone at the top of Group D. Click here for a match report.

Porto stopped the Paris Saint-Germain juggernaut and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s side is caught in second place in Group A by Dynamo Kiev.

Arsenal had to fight considerably harder than the 3-1 result over Olympiacos would suggest, while Schalke-Montpellier was a four-goal thriller.
