Petkovic: 'Lazio deserved win'

Vladimir Petkovic insists Lazio’s win over Maribor “was deserved” and has high hopes for the new Ederson-Hernanes midfield partnership.

“Maribor are an excellent side, very fast and mobile, which they proved tonight,” said the Coach after a 1-0 Europa League victory.

“In the first half they created a few too many chances thanks to our individual errors, but after the break we improved and the win was deserved.”

Hernanes started with Ederson for the first time tonight and the latter scored, but the former had a penalty saved.

“It went very well, as they played in different positions and both of them settled into the game. Is Sergio Floccari the understudy to Miroslav Klose? I don’t like that word, as Floccari is an important player and showed tonight he was ready.

“I didn’t do anything to improve Antonio Candreva’s form. I just placed him in a position where he can give his best. He has the qualities to be a very important player for this squad.”

Lazio are now top of their group, as Panathinaikos held Tottenham to a 1-1 draw.
