Ciro Ferrara admits Sampdoria made mistakes and didn’t do enough at the Bentegodi. “We are young and should be more cynical.”
Enzo Maresca had equalised with a wonderful free kick, but in the final minutes Chievo secured a 2-1 win when goalkeeper Sergio Romero fumbled a David Di Michele snapshot.
“Romero’s mistake can happen. In other occasions he was decisive for us, so he got it wrong today and we mustn’t blame him.”
Samp were also angry that the goal was scored when Pedro Obiang was down injured.
“It was a foul on Obiang and in general in these situations you put the ball out of play. That happens 99 times out of a hundred in Serie A and we ran into the one time they didn’t.
“Our team is young and should be more cynical. Maybe we aren’t very wide awake on the pitch. In general I didn’t like the attitude today, as we need more determination. Still, it is the first time we have put in a negative performance this season.
“We did not do enough to earn a victory or a draw, quite frankly.”
