Bologna’s rare double call-up

Bologna haven’t had two players simultaneously called up to the Italian national squad since March 2004.

Alberto Gilardino and Alessandro Diamanti were selected this weekend for the World Cup qualifiers against Armenia and Denmark.

It was eight years ago since the Stadio Dall’Ara outfit had more than one of their players included in the national set-up.

Carlo Nervo played 88 minutes of a 2-1 win in Portugal, while Cesare Natale remained on the bench during Giovanni Trapattoni’s reign.
