Alex scored the decisive goal after 54 minutes, but there were some tense moments, as he was brought down for the penalty after a classic dribbling move

Del Piero got back up to take the spot-kick and converted, but it had to be re-taken due to encroachment.

The tension evidently got to him, as the re-take was weak and Ante Covic parried, but Del Piero was able to tap in the rebound.

“We are happy now. This is the real atmosphere of the derby,” smiled the Italian after the final whistle.

This was the first Sydney derby in the history of the A-League at the Parramatta Stadium.
