Ciro Immobile has admitted that he was surprised to learn that Genoa opted to sack Gigi De Canio on Monday.
“I read about the news and I then spoke to the Press officer,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “I wasn’t at training, so I didn’t know what was going on.
“The Coach always behaved well with everyone and I thank him for all that he has done for me,” added the Under-21 international.
“There was tension in the air after the Roma game, but only because of the 4-2 loss. I didn’t think there would be a change of Coach.”
Genoa had raced into a two-goal lead, but the Giallorossi hit back to collect a 4-2 win at the Stadio Ferraris.
De Canio has been replaced on the Marassi bench by Gigi Del Neri.
