Beppe Iachini has admitted that he still doesn’t totally understand why he was sacked by Sampdoria during the summer.
The former Brescia tactician led the club back into the top flight, but he was subsequently replaced by Ciro Ferrara after a failed bid to lure Rafael Benitez.
“I can’t give you a precise answer about why I was replaced,” Iachini told Sport Italia. “I had a good relationship with everyone.
“We did some important work together. At one stage promotion didn’t seem possible and then we were able to get the best out of some important youngsters.
“The only explanation which was given to me was that the club, despite me still having a contract, were looking for a Coach with an international profile.”
Ferrara, who had an unsuccessful spell on the Juventus bench, was recruited after some fine work with the Italian Under-21 side.
