Allegri: Milan must beat Genoa

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri, now using a 3-4-3 formation, is in confident mood ahead of the game against Genoa.

The Rossoneri have had a nightmare start to the season, losing five of their first eight League games – as well as their last three in all competitions.

“We need to play with patience so that we are not betrayed by hastiness,” the tactician stated on Friday.

“We need to go into the game in the knowledge that we will have 100 minutes at our disposal to get the win.

“We have to play a simple game, but we have to win, that is an absolute must, and the players are in the right condition to do so.

“It will be an important match and we want to give the fans and the club a victory which the players deserve for what they are doing on the pitch.

“Genoa? They are a good side, they have technical players and a Coach who looks after the defensive side of things very well.”

The Diavolo lost 1-0 at Malaga on Wednesday, but Allegri saw enough positives in the surprise 3-4-3 formation to continue the experiment.

“We played a good game,” he reflected. “We used a 3-4-3 system for the first time and we’ll go forward with that.

“We conceded a first shot from Malaga after 36 minutes and after we created four or five favourable situations in the game.

“We had important chances, the problem is that we didn’t take advantage of them. The Malaga goal also came from our first and only defensive error.

“I can’t criticise the players. I’m convinced that with this concentration and with some improvements in the final third, we’ll be able to turn the corner.”

Allegri has had to deal with questions about his future for most of this season so far, but he insists he is calm.

“I have never feared the sack even if we are all aware about the moment we are going through. We are working hard to get back up the table and qualify for the next stage of the Champions League.”
