Petkovic: 'Now for the derby...'

Vladimir Petkovic is content with Lazio’s performance against Panathinaikos and hopes to carry that momentum into the Derby della Capitale.

“It was important for the team tonight and for the so-called second choice players. Tonight we proved that we have great strength in depth,” he said of the 3-0 victory that keeps them top of their Europa League group.

“After the 4-0 defeat to Catania on Sunday, it was important to see a reaction and now we need another reaction on Sunday.

“We must always remain positive. We were solid for 90 minutes and when you play with this spirit then many players can show their best.”

Libor Kozak bagged a brace despite a nasty head wound, while Sergio Floccari added a third. Federico Marchetti and Stefan Radu made their comebacks, the defender’s first start in seven months.

“It wasn’t a high tempo, but Radu looked solid and he is certainly an option for the derby. We have to play like Lazio and not think about how Roma are set out.

“From the first day I got here the talk has been about the derby, as everyone urged me to win it. We are playing for three points, but they are certainly worth their weight in gold.”
