After a weekend of superb strikes, excellent overhead action and some discriminating defending, Dave Taylor picks his best team from Week 12.
Andrea Consigli [Atalanta]
Although Atalanta were menacing, without the security of their young ‘keeper they may have lost. Twice he denied Rodrigo Palacio thunderbolts and defiantly faced down Antonio Cassano in a one on one. Sensational.
Juan Guillermo Cuadrado [Fiorentina]
The Colombian wingback was the king of the right flank and made Kevin Constant look amateurish. Menaced the Milan rearguard throughout and topped it all off with an assist for Mounir El Hamdaoui’s late goal. Splendid.
Gabriele Angella [Udinese]
The ex-Empoli defender picked the perfect time to break his Serie A duck with two classy goals. Both were utterly crucial equalisers, with his second in the dying seconds, the pick of the pair. Stunning.
Gonzalo Rodriguez [Fiorentina]
Never gave an inch to the Milan forwards and closed down Pato so well he was taken off. Also controlled Stephan El Shaarawy and, alongside Facundo Roncaglia, stopped everything in the air and on the ground. Steadfast.
Kwadwo Asamoah [Juventus]
Dragged the Dolphins into deep water with his crest of the wave runs down the wing and simply sunk the opposition at every turn. In a singular moment crowned a magnificent game scoring with a dazzling overhead kick. Sparkling.
Arturo Vidal [Juventus]
Incredibly gets better every game and was unstoppable when he surged forward. On one such early run, after some neat interplay with Seb Giovinco, he opened the scoring with sublime coolness. Also set up Fabio Quagliarella’s second goal. Sophisticated.
Marek Hamsik [Napoli]
Made all the running and was eventually rewarded for his all-out efforts by setting up Edinson Cavani’s equaliser on a counter-attack. In the final minute of normal time he scored a powerful header from Giandomenico Mesto’s delicious cross. Scintillating.
Sebastian Giovinco [Juventus]
More Andrea than Pirlo as he directed the traffic throughout the game from a more forward role. Had several near misses either side of his fabulous volleyed goal and a constant menace while having a hand in two goals. Sagacious.
Paulo Dybala [Palermo]
The “new Aguero” certainly looked it. Perhaps could have scored several times before his two Serie A debut goals. The first a screamer of a left-footer, his second came after he cleverly sprung an offside trap. Stupendous.
Fabio Quagliarella [Juventus]
A top quality hat-trick and two assists, with one of his goals a sublime scissor kick. Certainly one of his best ever performances and deserves all plaudits for his all-out attacking play. Supreme.
Miroslav Klose [Lazio]
Always a menace and the Lord of Lazio was always in total control and unmanageable even in the disgraceful weather. Almost scored twice before finally slipping between two defenders to slot the ball home through the puddles. Sublime.
Special mentions: Lorenzo Insigne [Napoli], Edinson Cavani [Napoli], Hernanes [Lazio], Antonio Candreva [Lazio], German Denis [Atalanta], Borja Valero [Fiorentina] and Danilo D’Ambrosio [Torino].
