Newcastle defender Davide Santon always believed he could get back into the Italian international set-up.
The defender, born in 1991, made his international debut in June 2009, but the last of his seven caps came in March of 2011.
“There is certainly great satisfaction,” agent Claudio Vigorelli told Calcio Mercato after the player was included in the squad for Wednesday’s France friendly.
“We never thought that Davide had been forgotten about.
“Coach Cesare Prandelli was probably waiting for the right moment to call him up again, waiting for him to play with consistency.
“Davide is now doing well, he’s been a first-team starter since the start of the season for a club with great history in one of the most important championships there is.
“We’re hoping this call is not an isolated incident and becomes a nice regular occurrence.”
