Francesco Guidolin sadly said goodbye to Udinese’s second European competition of the season and lost Dusan Basta to injury.
Tonight’s 2-0 defeat to Anzhi left the Friulani bottom of Group A and knocked them out of the Europa League.
“We gambled away our chances in the two defeats to Young Boys, who were clearly within our grasp,” said the Coach.
Udinese had already been knocked out of the Champions League preliminary round and now go out of the Europa League at the first hurdle.
“The fact remains we ended up in a truly difficult group. Now we have Serie A to focus on and must concentrate on that. The Coppa Italia also remains an objective.”
More bad injury news in Russia, as Dusan Basta has fractured his cheekbone after a nasty collision.
“It’s a shame for Basta, but by this stage we are accustomed to injuries.”
