Ciro Ferrara urges Sampdoria “don’t take off that helmet” they needed to battle their way to victory over Genoa, as they prepare to challenge Bologna.

The Coach had used a war metaphor going into the Derby della Lanterna, which ended their run of seven consecutive defeats.

“In a way, the derby prepares itself, but a player must find the same level of motivation for other games too. All of us have to find within ourselves a target that we want to achieve.

“I told the lads ‘don’t take off that helmet,’ if we want to use the metaphor I looked to last week. The result against Genoa must not let us forget what our real objective is and I want the lads even more tooled up for battle.”

Ferrara already has some good news with the return to fitness of Eder and Gaetano Berardi, but confirmed 19-year-old Argentine Mauro Icardi will play tomorrow.

“Bologna are an attacking team who play good football with quality players like Alessandro Diamanti, Alberto Gilardino and Manolo Gabbiadini. We need to have the same attitude as in the derby.

“We were perfect against Genoa and absolutely deserved the victory because we allowed our opponents nothing.

“Going forward I have to think positive and we cannot let our position in the table affect us.”
