Gian Piero Gasperini hailed Palermo’s Derby di Sicilia triumph and revealed Fabrizio Miccoli “promised to take us all out for dinner.”

The Rosanero had been struggling badly and missed key players for tonight’s game, but emerged 3-1 winners against arch-rivals Catania.

“The match showed the hunger and motivation within the group. We might not always play well, but in the last nine games we’ve put together 13 points,” said the Coach.

Miccoli scored his 100th Serie A goal to get the ball rolling before Josip Ilicic bagged a brace.

“I have always been happy with Ilicic. He might give off the sensation sometimes that he is apathetic, but this time he was able to take some of the chances he created. He always trains hard and wants to improve.

“Miccoli promised to take us all out for dinner when he scored his 100th goal. He had an intense week leading up to this derby and I hope he can continue like this.

“It’s a shame he was booked while on the bench, as he didn’t say anything particularly bad. He’ll be suspended against Inter now.”

Gasp also aimed a small sideswipe at Catania’s goal from Francesco Lodi.

“We gave them a little gift by not pointing out the free kick was taken from the wrong position.”
