Manchester United have been closely monitoring Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna, according to reports in the British Press.

The Daily Mirror claim that the Red Devils have sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old centre-back at the past two Toro games, in which they lost to Roma and drew with Fiorentina.

The Italy international has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the world with a string of impressive performances for Giampiero Ventura's side, with Sir Alex Ferguson's team keen to make him Rio Ferdinand's replacement at Old Trafford.

A bid of around €12m is likely to attract the interest of the Piedmont side, with Ogbonna's contract not due to expire until 2016.
