Eugenio Corini will come up against mentor Gigi Del Neri this weekend when Chievo travel to Genoa.

Corini is now the Coach of the Flying Donkeys after spending years as a player with the club under the tutelage of Del Neri.

“He's a teacher of football, I learnt a lot from him,” the former playmaker told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He was a pioneer, with new ideas on how to develop attacking football.

“I built my own ideas on his tactical base. He gave me useful advice on and off the pitch. For us players, he was a Coach, a motivator, a father, a friend.”

Corini was appointed as Chievo boss on October 2 after Mimmo Di Carlo was dismissed with the side at the wrong end of the table.

“We are back among the group of clubs who are fighting for survival and I am sure that we will not be relegated,” Corini noted. “However, we will suffer this season.”

Chievo and Genoa are currently just a point above the drop zone.
