Mario Balotelli has emerged as the sensational Milan transfer target for January, although he has to ‘break it off’ with Manchester City first.

President Silvio Berlusconi and his CEO Adriano Galliani have never disguised they have a soft spot for SuperMario, who is a self-confessed Rossoneri supporter.

According to both the Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport this morning, Berlusconi has set his sights on a January swoop for the troubled hitman.

Seeing Balotelli combine brilliantly with Stephan El Shaarawy for Italy, the club is eager to revive that rapport on a weekly basis.

However, as Berlusconi warned a few days ago, “top strikers are hard to get in the current economic crisis. We’d need them to make the situation with their clubs unsustainable first, like Ronaldinho did with Barcelona.”

It was an open invite for Balotelli to break it off with Manchester City, where he has already run into problems with the club hierarchy and manager Roberto Mancini, as he was dropped for a lengthy spell due to his attitude in training.

During a Press conference this week, Mancini insisted there were no plans to sell Balotelli in January.

Inter have also been linked with a bid for the 22-year-old, but it is highly unlikely he would return to the Nerazzurri.
