Lazio will match the Scudetto-winning pace with a win over Cagliari tonight, but Vladimir Petkovic insists “we are not the anti-Juventus. We are just pro-Lazio.”

The Biancocelesti are in second place and a victory this evening would give them 39 points, the same amount that Sven Goran Eriksson’s side had at the halfway stage in 1999-00. Click here for a match preview.

It is particularly surprising considering their dismal pre-season form and expectations Petkovic would be sacked.

“In the first two months I didn’t understand what the newspapers were saying about me, nor did I particularly care. I have been a player as well as a Coach, so I know when you arrive in a new environment it takes time to prove yourself.

“It took several months for us all to understand each other, then the results came. Perhaps one of my strengths is bringing calm to Lazio. I wanted to bring positivity to the team and to send that message out too.

“Are we the anti-Juventus? We’re not anti-anyone, we are just pro-Lazio. Cagliari have shown they are a good team, especially from the midfield up.”

The last few days have seen transfer rumours of Lazio making an offer for Chelsea star Frank Lampard.

“He is certainly a great player who has had wonderful campaigns with Chelsea. I could only give a precise verdict after seeing him on the field. In any case, it’s pointless talking about this now,” shrugged the Coach.

Lazio squad for Cagliari: Marchetti, Bizzarri, Carrizo; Biava, Cavanda, Diakitè, Dias, Konko, Radu, Scaloni, Ciani; Cana, Ledesma, Mauri, Candreva, Lulic, Gonzalez, Brocchi, Hernanes; Floccari, Kozak, Rozzi, Klose
