The Rosanero are without Massimo Donati, Andrea Mantovani, Abel Hernandez and the suspended Ezequiel Munoz, while Fabrizio Miccoli and goalkeeper Samir Ujkani are not 100 per cent fit either.

“We are in an emergency situation, but will not be unprepared for the first game of 2013,” said the Coach.

“Parma are an excellent side with an unpredictable style of football full of fine players who work for the team. The club is also planning well for the future.

“Ujkani? While he is at Palermo, I will continue to defend him. I don’t understand why there is so much criticism aimed at the goalkeeper.”

Palermo have reinforced over the transfer window already, bringing in Salvatore Aronica and Anselmo, while Andrea Dossena could follow from Napoli next week.

“Anselmo will be on the bench and could come in during the game. I am convinced by the end of the month we will have a competitive squad,” concluded Gasperini.

Palermo squad for Parma: Benussi, Brichetto, Ujkani; Aronica, Cetto, Garcia, Goldaniga, Milanovic, Morganella, Von Bergen; Anselmo, Barreto, Brienza, Ilicic, Kurtic, Sanseverino, Viola; Bollino, Budan, Dybala, Malele, Miccoli
