Rossi: 'Sure Samp can stay up'

Delio Rossi is “convinced this Sampdoria side can stay in Serie A” after holding Milan to a 0-0 draw.

“For 65 minutes we held out well, then fell away and with these teams you suffer if you drop the tempo,” said the Coach who replaced Ciro Ferrara last month.

“In my view this is a good group that is eager to work and the fact there are many young elements is good. Angelo Palombo is an important player and made himself available for me in this new centre-back role.

“It is important how we move off the ball and tonight the lads responded well to my requests. Mauro Icardi? Young players inevitably have peaks and troughs.

“The squad is following my directions, so the results can come or not, but I am not worried when I see that attitude.

“I am convinced this Sampdoria side can stay in Serie A. I didn’t come here just to pick up a pay cheque. We had not really expected to take four points off Juventus and Milan, but they were earned with hard work.”
