Roma CEO Claudio Fenucci has underlined that Daniele De Rossi is still a key player at the club – despite his failure to command a regular first team shirt.

The midfielder is the highest paid player at the club, but boss Zdenek Zeman hasn’t always used him in his starting XI.

De Rossi was again dropped at the weekend, but Fenucci has told Sky Sport Italia that the 29-year-old is part of the club’s future.

“We believe that De Rossi is an important player,” the official stated on Monday afternoon. “We hope he is played in the future, but that will be up to the Coach.”

The Giallorossi have had an inconsistent season to date thanks to 10 wins and eight defeats in 20 top-flight games.

“We have players with potential at Roma,” Fenucci continued. “However, the rejuvenation process takes time – but we are convinced that we are on the right track.”

De Rossi, born in the city, has played in just 12 League games this season – only nine of those from the first minute.
