Zeman: 'Roma sacrificed themselves'

Zdenek Zeman felt Roma brought out different qualities to the ones they are famous for in beating Fiorentina. “The lads sacrificed themselves.”

The Giallorossi were without stars such as Francesco Totti, Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, Erik Lamela and Marquinho, so changed to a brand new 3-4-3 system in the Coppa Italia quarter-final.

“Today we were in an emergency situation, but were also decisive,” said the Coach after a 1-0 victory in extra time.

“It’s normal we suffered, but the lads sacrificed themselves and we were able to win.”

Mattia Destro missed some sitters, but came sliding in to score the only goal after 107 minutes.

“Destro is an important player and he had other chances. We hope he has broken through and can score more.”

Roma go through to face Inter in the semi-final, while the other match is between Lazio and Juventus.
