Verratti: I’ll be back in Italy

Marco Verratti has no regrets about joining Paris Saint-Germain, but he’s opened the door for a return to Italy.

The youngster was targeted by Juventus and Napoli in the summer, but the playmaker moved to France after PSG agreed to meet Pescara’s12m asking price.

“I think, for now, I made the right choice,” the Italian told Radio RAI. “I’m playing for a side made up of champions.

“I don’t know if I would have done better in Italy, but my dream is to return to playing football in my country.”

Verratti was a revelation in Serie B last season under boss Zdenek Zeman, the Czech who is now in charge at Roma.

“He gave me so much,” the 21-year-old added. “He had faith in me and the other young players. And we had a great season.”

While Verratti thrived under Zeman, international teammate Daniele De Rossi is having his problems in the capital.

“De Rossi is a player who would be good for any team and I don’t know why he is not playing. But Zeman is a great Coach, an ideal one for a big club.”
