Petkovic downplays ‘lucky Lazio’ claim

Lazio boss Vladimir Petkovic is unconcerned with claims that his side’s fine run of form is down to a healthy slice of luck.

“We have to just confirm the good things that we have been showing,” he said when asked whether his side have been fortunate.

“We must have been very lucky seeing as we haven’t lost in 16 games…”

The Biancocelesti will face Chievo on Saturday and will be heavily favoured in the markets to again avoid defeat. “We are improving and I expect to see progress in the game against Chievo, a side who have collected points since they hired Eugenio Corini,” Petkovic added.

The capital outfit are joint second in Serie A, five points behind leaders Juventus, after going 10 games unbeaten in the League.

The Biancocelesti underlined their strength in midweek when they collected a 1-1 draw at Juventus in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final.

“I’ve seen the game again. We took home a good result with a little bit of luck, but we dominated the first half.

“The Juventus game proved that we are a competitive side, but we have to show that with a win against Chievo.”

Top scorer Miroslav Klose missed the midweek tie and he’s still a doubt for this weekend’s commitments in Serie A.

“If he recovers and is 100 per cent then he’ll either start or be on the bench. Otherwise I’ll save him for the Coppa game.

“Sergio Floccari? He is doing well and he has to continue like that. I could even start him alongside Klose, but it all depends on how the German is.”
