Walter Mazzarri was full of praise for Napoli after they became the first side to conquer Parma and closed to within three points of Juventus.
“Today we understood why nobody had won at the Tardini,” smiled the Coach after a 2-1 victory.
“I must compliment Roberto Donadoni, because Parma are a great side who work hard and never give up. We are extremely satisfied with this fundamental victory.
“The statistics say we have an extra 15 points compared to this time last year, when it was still a great season. This term we are going above and beyond expectations, but must also remember that every game is truly complicated in Italy.
“It has been important to play once a week recently, so we must learn to balance our energy levels when the Europa League resumes. It is true that the team has improved in terms of strength in depth.”
Mazzarri was asked about Juventus and general manager Beppe Marotta’s suggestion that referee Marco Guida did not award them a penalty because he is from Naples.
“I am not interested in talking about this. After the Italian Super Cup in Beijing I pledged not to discuss these things until the end of the season. Once it is over, I will express my opinion.”
Mazzarri dedicated the victory to Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone, who died this week.
