Claudio Marchisio has apologised to Juventus fans for failing to book his side a place in the Coppa Italia Final.
The midfielder virtually had an open goal to aim at in the closing stages of the 2-1 loss to Lazio last night, but he fired wide.
Had he scored then the Old Lady would have qualified on the away goal rule.
“I couldn’t miss,” the Italian international commented on his Facebook page. “It was so important. I’m sorry.”
Arturo Vidal scored an injury time equaliser but with extra-time looming, Sergio Floccari headed home a corner before Sebastian Giovinco and Marchisio’s errors.
“We’d saved the game and we had chances to get to the Final, but, unfortunately, it ended as it did,” the former Empoli man added.
“We have to give much more, starting with myself, even if we played well. Now we have two targets left and we’ll give it our all.”
