Catania Coach Rolando Maran can’t help but have regrets after the defeat to Napoli, but blamed his own strikers more than the referee.

The 2-0 loss was controversial, as Juan Camilo Zuniga appeared to handle in the box during the first half, then Gonzalo Bergessio’s goal was disallowed for his shirt-tug on Zuniga.

“We played the game we had to, while Napoli did very well to make the most of the few chances we allowed them.

“We were penalised by the Pablo Barrientos error when we were 1-0 down, as that could’ve re-opened the game and let us push them right to the end. Napoli are a strong side, but we knew that and realised it would not be easy.

“The penalty incident? The footage speaks for itself and this has happened to us a few times this year, but I prefer to talk about a good performance in which we weren’t clinical enough in front of goal.

“The state of the pitch didn’t help and we hesitated quite a few times, losing momentum in many favourable situations.”
