Inter’s Zanetti remains positive

Javier Zanetti has admitted that Inter’s Champions League objective is still alive despite their ‘non-appearance’ at Fiorentina on Sunday.

The Nerazzurri were crushed 4-1 by the Viola last night, meaning they’ve now won just two of their last nine League games.

However, Zanetti remains optimistic given that his fifth-placed side are presently just one point shy of the top three.

“The standings show we’re not mathematically that far off the Champions League spots, which is very important for us and the club,” the Argentine told Inter Channel.

“The team wasn’t in it last night and everyone deserves the blame for the loss in Florence,” he added.  “No one expected such an outcome.

We’re very bitter about both the result and the performance. But Fiorentina deserve credit – and any team would have suffered against them.

“We now have two choices – either give up, which is something we’re not used to doing, or immediately start again. So we are going to start again.

“When you suffer a blow like that you have to accept it and get on with things. We have to start again and try to react as soon as possible.

“On Thursday there’s the Europa League and then the derby against Milan which could be the turning point…”
