Massimo Ambrosini says he understands that he may not be able to continue his playing career with Milan once this season ends.
The midfielder’s contract expires in the summer and it is unclear whether he will be handed a fresh one-year deal.
“I don’t want to retire, I want to keep playing,” the man who will be 36 in May noted. “But I know that the club’s new project is based on youngsters so we’ll have to see what happens.
“If I was to leave Milan then I would not choose to play for another Italian club, that is for sure,” the club captain noted.
The former Italian international was signed by the Diavolo in 1995 after graduating through the Cesena youth ranks.
Ambrosini has been paired with a possible future in America.
