Rolando Maran can’t quite believe Catania threw away a 2-0 lead to lose against Inter. “We had tried to kill off the game.”

The Sicilians flew into an early lead when Gonzalo Bergessio and Giovanni Marchese took advantage of defensive errors, but Rodrigo Palacio came off the bench to score two and set up another for the 3-2 result.

“It’s such a shame about this comeback. Perhaps we should’ve kept the ball better, but we always tried to score a third goal,” said the Coach.

“We had a few great scoring opportunities and tried to kill off the game, but unfortunately we were unable to take those chances.

“I don’t think this is a deserved defeat, as for long periods the performance was memorable.

“Palacio’s introduction was decisive, as he caused us real problems. I think if we had been able to finish off the match earlier, then Inter could not have complained.

“Inter did well to maintain the strength to turn this situation around. In defence we could’ve done better, even if Inter have a strike force to be respected.”
