Inter 'clause' in Simeone deal?

Diego Simeone officially extended his contract with Atletico Madrid yesterday, but there are still reports it leaves the door open for a future at Inter.

On Tuesday the tactician put pen to paper on a new deal holding him to Atletico until June 2017.

Many thought this marked the end of persistent rumours he was being lined up to take over at Inter next season.

However, Italian reports continue to push this line and claim there is a clause in the contract allowing Simeone to walk away after two years without paying a penalty.

He played for Inter from 1997 to 1999 and has already been a Serie A Coach for Catania in 2011, but with Atletico Madrid he won the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup, also qualifying for this season’s Copa del Rey Final.

“I thank the directors for having wanted to renew my contract. We can continue with this philosophy and this project that has brought us together,” said El Cholo in today’s Press conference.

“This renewal is a success for the club, in terms of continuing to construct a balance. From this supported stability, institutions can grow and sustain the talent of their players. Everyone wants a better Atletico Madrid.”
