Petkovic: 'Lazio want third place'

Vladimir Petkovic has one foot in the Europa League quarter-finals and warns tomorrow’s opponents Fiorentina that “Lazio will try to take third place with all our might.”

The Biancocelesti are fresh from Thursday’s impressive 2-0 victory away to VfB Stuttgart and welcome the Viola in a head-to-head for Europe on Sunday evening. Click here for a match preview.

“With Milan’s victory in Genoa, every team needs to win now, so we need the three points tomorrow against Fiorentina,” said Petkovic in his Press conference.

“We can beat them with great football and the help of our fans. I hope everyone can give their contribution to help us get the result.

“Lazio will try to take third place with all our might. We must believe in ourselves and have more faith in Serie A, just as we do in Europe. Now we have to prove ourselves domestically too and above all impose our tempo on the game away from home.

“Is this the last chance saloon for a Champions League spot? Not at all, we still have very real chances of qualifying.”

Ederson and Nigerian Africa Cup of Nations winner Eddy Onazi scored sensational goals in Stuttgart, but rarely feature in Serie A.

“If Onazi deserves to play, then he will play. Ederson proved he is a valid player, is improving physically and can soon play in every game. He is versatile and can play anywhere, even as a striker.”
