Zarate snubs Sunderland for Velez

While Sunderland show an interest in Lazio outcast Mauro Zarate, his agent warns “he wants to go back to Argentina and Velez would be ideal.”

The striker has started legal action to have his contract rescinded, while the club is in turn trying to impose a fine after he was caught in the Maldives while on injury leave.

TalkSport claim Sunderland have stepped forward with a proposal to bring the former Birmingham City hitman back to the Premier League.

Liverpool, Stoke and Arsenal are also said to be interested in Zarate, while Russian sides are keeping track of the situation.

“My brother could terminate his contract with Lazio,” Roly Zarate told TycSports in Argentina.

“Mauro wants to go back to Argentina and Velez would be ideal.”
