Beckenbauer slams ‘pensioner’ Buffon

Franz Beckenbauer likened Gigi Buffon to a pensioner after the Juventus goalkeeper failed to keep out David Alaba’s goal last night.

Bayern Munich took the lead after just 25 seconds when the Italian international, 35, failed to stop Alaba’s long-range effort.

“How was he positioned? He seemed like a pensioner,” the Honorary Bayern Munich President noted after his club’s 2-0 Champions League win. “Alaba shot from 120 metres away…

“I don’t want to upset him, but he should have kept that shot out. Perhaps Gigi didn’t think that Alaba would shoot from so far.

“Bayern were focused from the first until the last minute and Juventus hardly had a shot on goal. The result is tight for us, we should have won by three or four goals.”

Bayern ‘keeper Manuel Neuer defended Buffon after the game.
