Delio Rossi admits it will feel a little strange when Sampdoria take on his old Palermo side, potentially pushing them towards relegation.

Rossi had several tumultuous spells on the Sicilian bench from 2009 to 2011, taking them to the Coppa Italia Final and a fifth-place finish in Serie A.

“I did not expect to find them in this situation,” confessed the Coach in his Press conference.

“I am very close to Palermo, especially as I remember only two years ago there were 35,000 people dressed in pink and black to fill the Stadio Olimpico for the Coppa Italia Final.

“I can’t judge what has gone wrong from so far away and I don’t know the situation. I expect to meet opponents who are aware of their difficulties, but coming to play for a result that is potentially decisive for their future.”

Sampdoria had also been contenders for relegation when Rossi took over from Ciro Ferrara, but has steered them back out of danger.

“I would hate for people to forget where we came from, as when I arrived it was not a good scenario. We were not useless before and we are not phenomenons now.

“The team has its own shape now and we have to finish the work we started.”
