Montolivo questions Milan mentality

Riccardo Montolivo is refusing to just blame the referee for Milan’s 2-2 draw at Fiorentina on Sunday.

Despite some dubious decisions made by the man in black, the Rossoneri threw away a two-goal lead in Tuscany yesterday.

“Our approach, mentally speaking, was wrong,” stated the Italian international. “Maybe we thought the game was over before it was and it’s a shame as this was an important match.”

The San Siro giants are now four points behind second-placed Napoli and the two sides will face each other next weekend.

“We definitely want to win against Napoli and we’re asking for a hand from the fans,” Montolivo continued.

“They’ve always been behind us and we hope they’ll be with us this time as well.”

Yesterday was a special tie for Montolivo as it was the first time that he had returned to Fiorentina following his summer move to Milanello.

“I have many friends here, Florence is a very affectionate city and I’ve always had a good relationship with the city – but it’s different at the stadium,” said the man who got on the scoresheet.

“I’d also like to thank my teammates and the club for having given me the captain’s armband for this match as it was never going to be just another game for me.

“It’s a great honour for me if I think of the players of the past who have worn it.”
