Hernanes has admitted that a dream evening was ruined by his penalty miss in the 1-1 draw between Lazio and Roma.

The Brazilian gave his side the lead with a stunning strike in the derby, but the midfielder allowed the Giallorossi back into the game.

He firstly failed to put his side 2-0 up from the spot and then gave away a penalty himself which Francesco Totti equalised from.

“Sometimes football can provide incredible surprises,” the former Sao Paulo man told Italia 2. “It seemed like it would be an unforgettable evening for me.

“After a nice goal I could have got the second with a penalty, but then everything changed. It was just amazing.

“The penalty miss? I usually waited for the goalkeeper to move when I took penalties, but, seeing as they no longer do that, I choose a corner.

“I don’t really miss in training, but I was off target this time. It was a real shame as it could have been the most beautiful of evenings.”
